Convertible little table
Poudreuse, coiffeuse, liseuse, and sécretaire

Paris around 1755/60

Blonde-shaded acajou wood on oakwood Hot-gilded bronzes Original gilded ink writing set Original locks and keys.

Small, very elegant piece of furniture on delicately curved feet with movable frame The curved, broken front side has a small drawer and an extendible tray. The tabletop is divided into four compartments with a thin band edging, which can be opened sideways; the middle section can be opened up and used as a lectern. Behind, there is a narrow, lying door with a writing set made of gilded bronze beneath it.

When closed, both middle fasteners may be used to change the table into a coiffeuse with an adjustable mirror. On the narrow sides, asymmetrical drawers can be opened via a middle axis, to use the table as a poudreuse. The silky acajou wood has taken an antique blonde shade which is even intensified by the inlaid cuba mahogany contours around the bronzes.
